Dad in typing class

Years ago when I was still in high school (and long before personal computers were de riguer), my parents stressed to me the importance of taking a keyboarding class. Naturally, as a writer I had a fair amount of experience but it wasn’t “textbook” keyboarding. Mom was a career secretary and so of course she told me how crucial it was to learn how to type. And then my father piped in about it.

He explained that even he took a typing class as a senior in high school and that it was one of the best things he ever learned. He also told me that he was one of two guys in the whole class. It then became clear to me why he really wanted to learn how to type. Typing to him was a prelude to dating.

In all seriousness, Dad knew it was a good idea to learn proper keyboarding.

The lesson I learned from this: For every important lesson you learn – whether it’s keyboarding or whatever- there’s always another underlying lesson. For dad, it was the key to dating – for me and everybody else it could be dating (my class was equally male/female) or anything else. Perhaps it’s just the journey, maybe you make a new friend along the way, and maybe you pick up another skill in addition to the one you’re there for. It’s good to be open to all possibilities. I think that’s what my dad did.

All woman, in old age one must be prepared to face any situation, in lieu of death of husband or his long illness. One should shoulder more responsibilit for everything that you may have never done any of these your whole life, and you have to get prepared. Get to know what is where, how much, and who is managing it, ie advisor, broker, CA, planner, lawyer etc. Depending on the asset size and family dynamics, find out if the Will is registered. It's important that a Will is drawn up specifying exactly how the assets will get transferred in the contingent absence of any one spouse. Life Insurance: What is the policy? What is the likely death benefit going to be? How do you file the claim? Is the agent accessible? These days banks sell insurance and if you really need help, be sure to know where and whom to get your claim from. When that money comes in who will help you manage it? You must have all the answers. Pension: This is with regards to spouse pension payments. Is the money going to come into the bank account directly, or do you need to file a claim? What is the procedure to transfer the pension payments in your name? . Other investments: Are all investments likely to get transferred to your name? There can be numerous procedural bottlenecks. For example, dematerialisation of shares, joint holding with children and not you etc. There are numerous instances where you can see your money but cannot touch it. At times like this, you wish you had kept all your paperwork in order. : Are you covered by the company your spouse was working in? Is there adequate funds for this? If the medical Insurance is not available what are your options? Power of Attorney should be got registered with the help of an advocate earlier to avoid all legal complications.
